Thank you for your interest in Amaya's Japanese Chin. The first question most people ask is the price. We feel there are so many more important things but just to get it out of the way... Our Chin puppies average between $850 - $1400. Many things factor into the price such as the pedigree of the parents, color, markings, size, etc.
Why do we charge what we do? Unlike most breeders we raise our Chin on a fresh prepared diet of meats and veggies. We feel this essential in longterm health and to minimize any potential hereditary defects. We take a holistic approach to breeding and give only the best natural alternative care. We also make sure our puppies are vaccinated, wormed and free of fleas, earmites and other disease and infection before they are transfered to their new homes. We offer a full guarantee of the health of our puppies. All of these things take money and since we spare no expense on making sure our puppies are whelped and weaned with only the best natural care we want them to go to families who will also provide a similar lifestyle. We supervise our puppies 24 hours a day to make sure they are properly socialized. Our puppies are not left outside and raised in a kennel enviornment.
We are not a kennel, puppy mill or backyard breeders. Are Chins are whelped, raised and socialized inside our homes in California and Texas with 24 hour supervision. When we are expecting a litter we will make a questionnaire available on our website for those who would like to 'adopt' one of chin puppies. We will review each questionnaire and if we feel you will make a suitable home for our of chindren then we will send you an email and put you on a waiting list for that litter. When the litter of puppies is three weeks old we will contact everyone on the waiting list to let them know we have pictures posted of each puppy. We will also let you know prices and weights, etc. You will have the opportunity to let us know which puppy or puppies you are most interested in. If that puppy is available then we will let you know and you can make your final decision. You will then watch your new puppy grow for the next 7 weeks through photo's posted in the nursery. If you are contacted regarding a puppy or a litter you do NOT have to choose that puppy and may pass until the next litter but you will have to fill out a questionnaire for each litter as we will no longer be keeping them on file.
Please note: We do not allow visitors into our homes when we have puppies under ten weeks. This is for their safety and well being. The weaning and socialization period is extremely important to us and we have strict rules and guidelines we follow to ensure our puppies are socialized properly. We also do not want to risk them to any disease or virus' until they have been vaccinated for parvo and distemper. Many times people are unknowingly carrying around germs/bacteria that can be harmful to young puppies. Therefore you will be asked to choose your puppy based on photos and/or video during his/her first few weeks of life. Our first priority is to our chindren and instead of waiting until the puppies are 10 weeks to contact people, we give you the opportunity instead to watch your puppy develop through photos and video clips. We assure you that although every puppy is slightly different, every puppy that comes out of our home has a loving, affectionate and sweet temprement. We have never had a complaint or a puppy returned to us for any reason. If you would like to visit our homes to meet our chindren and us, we will be happy to arrange that during a time when there are only puppies over 10 weeks in the home.
When you do choose a puppy you will need to send a deposit which will be a percentage of the total fees. We will then ask you to think of a name for your puppy and shortly after you will receive a packet of information and advice to prepare for your new family member. At 12-14 weeks your puppy will be ready to travel to your home.
For our California puppies we promise to post photos of the puppies at least once per week so that you can see your puppy develop and get to know him or her from the very beginning. My Mom on the otherhand is not as good with the camera or the computer so Texas puppies will have occasional photos but I cannot guarantee she will be able to post them every week. If you have a high speed connection we will also email you short video clips of your puppy.
When you pick up your puppy you will receive a cd containing all of the photo's taken of your puppy during his/her first ten weeks. We feel it is important to give an entire experience and our customers appreciate being able to be there from the beginning of their puppys life. We also will provide you with a small toy and a small blanket embroidered with your puppys name so that he/she has a little piece of home to comfort her during the transition to her new life.
Your puppy will have been wormed, had a fecal exam and one or both of the only two vaccinations we feel is necessary for his/her entire life. If we will be flying your puppy to you then he or she will receive both Parvo and Distemper before traveling. We feel that Distemper and Parvovirus should only be administered once and there is no need to revaccinate, there is also no need to administer any additional vaccines unless there is a high risk of another disease in your area. You of course may choose your own vaccination schedule. Your puppy will not have or have ever had fleas, mites or any other type of parasites and will arrive clean and happy. Be leary of breeders whose puppies have had ear mites as this will effect their ears and cause chronic ear problems for many years to come.
Every litter is registered with the AKC. Your puppys AKC Registration paperwork is available to you if you would like to register. The registration will be Limited which means you cannot show or breed your Japanese Chin. The registration will be sent to you only after we receive a copy of the spay/neuter receipt from your vet. If you are interested in full registration because you are looking for a show puppy, please contact us by email to discuss the possibility. We do not allow our Chins to be used for breeding without our express consent.
If you will need the puppy delivered to you, the price averages between $150 and $250 depending on the delivery method you choose. We generally fly our puppies on Continental Airlines using their Pet Safe Program and QUICKPAK. We have had nothing but success with air travel and ensure you this is the safest and fastest method of transport. We charge the exact cost of transport which can change over the months which is why we do not have a set price listed but the breakdown is as follows: $25 crate (brand new crate that can be used for the entire life of your Chin) $25 health certificate (we do not charge you for the office visit, only the certificate) $99 - $170 flight depending on weight and airline
The response we have gotten from our website since its posting in January 2003 has been overwhelming and along with many referrals and repeat customers we already had, our puppies are in high demand. We may be the right breeder for you if time is not your biggest factor and you would rather wait for the "right puppy" instead of the "right now" puppy. Our Chins are exceptional and there is no other breeder out there that takes more time and care into the raising of puppies as we do. We dedicate our time and energy to raising and socializing loving, happy and affectionate Japanese Chins.
There are so many wonderful families and individuals that we would love to place our puppies with and we are doing everything we can to help fulfill the requests.
We hope that if you choose not to wait for one of our puppies that you will purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder and not a pet store (a.k.a. puppy mills or kennels). Quality is essential when you are talking about the health of small breed dog. If you want your pet to live a long and healthy life then health care must begin before the puppy is even born. I receive many email stories about experiences with pet store puppies and every one of them comes with some sort of problems whether emotional or health. Even though a puppy might look healthy and happy through a pet store window, you cannot imagine what that puppy has been exposed to in the first eight weeks of his life or worse yet what his mother and father have been exposed to.
NO RESPECTABLE BREEDER WHO LOVES HER PUPPIES WOULD EVER SELL A JAPANESE CHIN TO A PET STORE! If you would like more information about pet stores and animal abuse please see our Resources Page.
We also hope that you will bookmark our site and use it as a resource for anything related to the Japanese Chin. As breeders our goal is to help everyone who owns a Japanese Chin to be as educated as possible in the care and health of the breed. If you purchase a puppy from some other source and you do not receive any information on how to raise your puppy we are always available to help out with any information or questions. Please let me know if you have any further questions by email or by visiting our CHIN Q & A BOARD or if you would like to ask others you can join our Yahoo JapaneseChinLovers Group, please see go to our website and click on CHIN CHAT or FORUM.
Once you have sent an email confirmation to us to be added to the waiting list, you will begin receiving litter news and puppy updates.
Best wishes and take care,
